An individual was arrested and faces multiple charges after Peterborough County OPP officers were called to a residence after an assault took place.
On Saturday February 28, 2026, prior to 9:30am, the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from an individual who had just been assaulted. The caller advised that the accused had attended their residence on County Road 49 and threw an axe through their door.
The caller then stated the individual entered the residence with a firearm and made advances in a threatening manner. The caller was able to leave the location and contacted the OPP from a safe location.
Officers attended the address and due to the concerns over the possession of a firearm, officers secured the area and additional resources were brought in. At approximately 11:30am, the accused exited the residence surrendering themself to police. The accused was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment.
Dean FINLEY, age 47 of Trent Lakes, ON., has been arrested and charged with:
• Assault
• Mischief
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Pointing a firearm
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
As a result of the arrest, eight firearms along with other weapons and various ammunition were seized for safekeeping.
The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
