The Northumberland Breakers Undertow 16U girls volleyball team captured the gold medal on Sunday, February 8, 2026, with an outstanding performance at the Heart and Hustle Tournament completing the entire day without dropping a single set.
From the opening match through to the championship final, the Undertow controlled the pace of play, showcasing a powerful combination of aggressive offense and disciplined defense. The team advanced confidently through pool play and the elimination rounds, sweeping every opponent they faced.
In the gold medal match, the Undertow continued their exceptional level of play, closing out the tournament in decisive fashion to secure first place. Strong serving pressure, excellent communication, and balanced contributions from every athlete fueled the team’s unbeaten run.
“This team came in focused and ready,” said head coach Lindsay Sejrup. “Not dropping a set all day is a testament to their preparation and how well they play together.”
This gold medal finish marks a standout achievement for the Undertow 16U squad and joins a growing collection of medals earned this season, setting an exciting tone as they move forward toward Provincials and then prepare to hit the big stage at Nationals in Calgary, Alberta.
The team is also incredibly grateful for the amazing support from their small town community and local sponsors, whose generosity helps make opportunities like this possible. A heartfelt thank you goes to Cobourg Midas, Jim’s Pizza Cobourg, Cucina Urbana, Alana Delong Mortgage Broker (Dominion Lending), Kate Moebus Therapy, Lakeland Multi-trade, Mosaic, and Cobourg Century 21. Your belief in these athletes means the world to them and their families.
The Undertow invite the community to continue celebrating and supporting their journey by attending their upcoming fundraiser: a Comedy Show featuring three outstanding comedians, to be held at the Cobourg Lions Centre on April 9th. Tickets are $30 each, with all proceeds going directly toward helping the team travel to Calgary in May.
