SIU – Northumberland OPP Officer Did Nothing To Cause Man’s Wrist Fractures

In Local, Police Blotter

The Deputy Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Stacey O’Brien, has terminated an investigation into the serious injury suffered by a 39-year-old man in October in Bewdley.

The man was arrested in the evening of October 2, 2025, following a call to police from his mother indicating that he was attempting to force entry into the residence with a hammer and threatening to burn the house down. The first officer to arrive at the home placed the man under arrest without incident. While being handcuffed, the man reported experiencing considerable pain in his right hand caused during his attempt to enter the family residence. The man was transported to hospital and diagnosed with fractures of the right wrist.

Based on the SIU’s preliminary inquiries, Deputy Director O’Brien was satisfied that the investigation should be discontinued. It was readily apparent that the police did nothing that could conceivably attract criminal liability in connection with the injuries of the man. There being patently nothing to investigate as far as the potential criminal liability of the police was concerned, the file has been closed.
