SONG Sings Louder Than Ever Thanks to TD Bank Group and Local Champion

In Local

SONG (Sounds of the Next Generation), Northumberland’s fast-growing music education charity, has been awarded a $51,000 commitment over two years by TD Bank Group through its TD Ready Commitment program.

The grant supports SONG’s After-School Music Programs, helping children from all walks of life experience the joy and community of making music together.

This support lands just as a Port Hope resident made a landmark $25,000 donation, the largest private gift in SONG’s history. Their challenge to the community? Let’s match it. Over the next two weeks, SONG is running a 3x matching campaign to raise even more support for youth music programming in the region.

“These dollars translate directly into instruments, instructors, and inclusive spaces,” says Lucas Marchand, Artistic Director.

“It means more kids discovering what they’re capable of.”

“When community members and partners like TD come together, real transformation is possible,” adds Executive Director Miles Bowman. “SONG is becoming a launchpad for local talent — and this funding ensures we can keep that door wide open.”

Councillor Adam Pearson, Town of Port Hope, praised the collaboration:
“This kind of giving — from our local citizens shows Port Hope’s commitment to support and generosity — this kind of gift is how we make lasting change.”

SONG is already supporting 130+ students across 11 after-school sites, and recently launched SONG Samples, a short-course model that allows kids to try out new instruments in a welcoming environment.

The charity is aiming to serve over 600 youth this season.
