Cobourg Police Wraps Up Back-To-School Safety Campaign

In Police Blotter

The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) has concluded its annual Back-to-School Safety Campaign under the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP), aimed at promoting safe driving and pedestrian awareness in school zones throughout the Town of Cobourg.

Throughout September, CPS officers conducted targeted speed enforcement and traffic patrols in designated Community Safety Zones. The campaign emphasized the importance of slowing down, obeying posted signs, and staying alert, especially during peak school hours.

In September, CPS officers issued the following:

  • 75 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) for Speeding and 37 warnings
  • One Stunt Driving Charge
  • Three Suspended Drivers
  • 14 Drive with Hand-Held Device and two warnings
  • 12 for Disobeying Signs
  • Three Drive Wrong Way and two warnings
  • One Fail to Obey School Crossing Stop Sign

Although this month’s Back to School focus has wrapped up, CPS continues to enforce speed limits and adherence to the Highway Traffic Act throughout the year. We encourage all drivers to:

  • Reduce speed in school zones.
  • Obey school bus signals and crossing guards.
  • Stay focused and avoid distractions.
  • Be patient and plan for extra time during school hours.
