Hamilton Township Council Cuts Application Fee in Half for Habitat for Humanity

In City Hall, Local

Habitat for Humanity Northumberland was represented at Hamilton Township council’s committee-of-the-whole meeting Tuesday seeking financial relief for a condominium registration application.

Director of Business Operations Aimee Tedford specified Habitat hoped council would waive the $4,000 application fee and $6,000 deposit fee for legal and related review to do with the registration.

“We’re asking that these fees be waived in order to maintain affordability for our housing projects, especially Baltimore which is the seven net-zero condo unit,” Tedford said. “In order to complete the project, we’d like these fees to be waived. All families are now occupying the units. There’s 24 individuals who now have a hand up and now have an opportunity to grow their finances and be successful homeowners paying taxes.”

Deputy Mayor Larry Williamson said he understood Northumberland County was willing to do a 50% reduction for a similar request. He suggested the township offering the same for the $4,000 fee with Habitat still required to pay the full $6,000 amount.

Council passed the motion to reduce the application fee to $2,000 with the full deposit still required by Habitat.
