Northumberland OPP – Joint Police Effort Recovers Stolen Vehicles on Highway 401

In News, Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted the York Regional Police (YRP) in the successful recovery of two stolen vehicles.

On August 27, 2025, shortly after 2:00 a.m., OPP officers responded to a request for assistance in stopping two vehicles believed to be stolen and travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Bowmanville.

One vehicle was stopped by OPP in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, and the driver was taken into custody. The second vehicle continued eastbound and was later stopped in Quinte West.

YRP took custody of both drivers, and both stolen vehicles have been recovered.

This outcome underscores the importance of police services working in partnership to achieve a common goal. Auto theft knows no jurisdictional boundaries, and through coordinated efforts, officers are able to respond quickly, share information, and bring investigations to successful conclusi ons. Inter-agency collaboration remains a vital tool in combatting organized crime and protecting communities across Ontario.

If you have any information regarding a criminal offence please contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or you can submit your information online at stopcrimehere.ca. Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display, and you will remain anonymous.
