Municipality of Port Hope Announces New Strategic Community Funding Initiatives

In City Hall

The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce the transition of its Community Grants and Donations funding to the ‘Community Strategic Initiatives Funding Program’ – a new, streamlined approach to allocating Municipal funds that directly aligns with the goals outlined in the Municipality’s forthcoming Strategic Plan.

“This new funding model is about streamlining the process and ensuring every dollar has a meaningful impact,” notes Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “By aligning community funding with our Strategic Plan, we’re creating a clear path for organizations to bring forward ideas that shape the future of Port Hope.”

This program replaces the former Community Grants and Donations Policy (By-law 68/2003), following a resolution passed at a recent Council meeting. The updated model being developed will invite proposals from local organizations that support strategic priorities such as community events, tourism, culture, recreation, and other initiatives that contribute to community building and innovation.

“This initiative ensures that our public funds are utilized in a way that directly advances our community’s goals,” said Councillor Todd Attridge, who championed the original motion to establish the new program. “By supporting strategic projects, we empower our local organizations to drive change and contribute to a vibrant and resilient community.”

Foundational funding recipients, including the Capitol Theatre, Critical Mass, and Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny, will also be presented with opportunities that may result in new funding agreements in exchange for providing specific services aligned with Port Hope’s Strategic Plan.

To further promote engagement, the Municipality will host an annual event, providing a platform for groups and individuals to present innovative ideas that foster growth, creativity, and meaningful impact. Funding allocations will be incorporated into the annual operating budget and reviewed each year to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness.

In the New Year, the Municipality will launch a public campaign to share detailed information about the new program, including how to submit proposals and access support throughout the application process.
