Video – Local Wood Carvers Hobby Turns Into Treasure Hunt in Victoria Park

In Local

A local wood carvers hobby is turning Victoria Park into a treasure hunt.

Local wood carver Bill Manson creates tiny sculptures and every so often goes around Victoria Park placing them in not so obvious spots.

Manson said he’s been a wood carver for many years before moving to Cobourg with his wife four years ago.

Retiring from Bell, he needed a hobby and found wood carving is something that he loved.

It’s not uncommon to find Manson in his basement or just relaxing in his garage, with a small piece of wood carving away.

You can find him on Facebook by the name Hidden Heids. That’s where he’ll announces that he’s placed numerous carvings in Victoria Park or surrounding area.

After that – the treasure hunt is on and if you’re lucky, you’ll find one.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025 he announced that four small carvings of images including, a Cobourg firefighter, Cobourg police, Concert Band of Cobourg and an RCMP officer were hidden throughout the park in honour of “Salute the Uniform” week.

Today’s Northumberland met up with one person who found the Cobourg police carving. When it was explained to her the meaning behind it, she was thrilled that someone would do that and really enjoyed finding it.

For anyone who wishes to follow Manson, just go to Facebook and click on Hidden Heids to join in on the fun.

Mason says anyone interested in carving can visit the Cobourg Community Centre on Tuesday mornings where people can learn about the Cobourg Carving Club.
