Library Opens New Branch in Cold Springs

In Community, Local

Deputy Mayor Larry Williamson praised the soft launch of a new library branch in Cold Springs at Hamilton Township’s regular council meeting Tuesday afternoon.

A pilot project, the Cold Springs location is the third branch in the township along with Bewdley and Gores Landing, which are all operated through the Cobourg Public Library.

Williamson, who is Hamilton Township’s council representative on the Cobourg Library board, said opening day “was very successful” last Wednesday, July 9.

“They did a lot of promoting and there was a lot of response from the community, very positive,” Williamson said.

There were 62 patrons at the Cold Springs Memorial Hall and 45 items were checked out as the library also offered activities for families. There is also a playground behind the hall, which Williamson said was also well-used by the library patrons.

“We look forward to ongoing services in Cold Springs,” he remarked, noting the branch will be open once a week on Wednesdays. The current hours are 3 to 6 p.m.

Williamson also thanked the township’s Manager of Parks and Facilities Trevor Clapperton and staff “for helping the library get the old Cold Springs hall up and running again.”

Mayor Scott Jibb said “it’s nice to hear good news like that.”
