Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services along with the Port Hope Police Service teamed up for a community car wash on Saturday, July 12, 2025 with all proceeds going to the Port Hope Walk-In Clinic.

The event started at 10 a.m., but even before the event kicked off there were a line up of vehicles waiting at the Toronto Road location.

Members of OCEAP (Ontario Community Emergency Assistance Program) also helped out at the barbeque and Banjo Girl entertained people as they waited for their turn in the car wash.

One by one the vehicles were lead under the spray of Port Hope’s aerial truck to be sprayed down. After that, firefighters including Williams and police, including Port Hope Police Chief Tim Farquharson washed down the vehicles before being rinsed off with help from a few youngsters. In between vehicles there was a bite of a battle with the hoses with the kids.

Port Hope Police Constable Tammie Staples was directing the vehicles, but may or may not have been intentionally sprayed by the firefighter on the ladder truck.

“You’re mean,” Staples shouted jokingly to the firefighter.

Staples who is very well known through the community attending many events.

“Great partnership and it’s all about community. Small town, but we are amazing when we work together.”

But Staples vowed for payback with the firefighters.

Fire Chief Jason Williams said it was an “amazing event” with nearly $4,000 being raised thanks to the community support.

One person who had her car washed said as she was leaving, “it was flipping amazing and God loves you all for doing this for us.”
