Peterborough County OPP – Driver Charged with Careless After Collision on Highway 7

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews attended a collision on Highway 7 where five individuals were transported to hospital.

On Thursday July 10, 2025, at approximately 9:30am, the Peterborough County OPP were notified of a collision that had taken place on Highway 7 between Burnham Line and Lancaster Road. The collision involved a sedan that had four occupants and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a loan driver.

Information was provided that the SUV was attempting to turn westbound from a local business while two commercial vehicles were waiting to turn into the same business. As the SUV was making their turn, an eastbound sedan, obstructed from view, collided with the SUV. As a result of the collision, some lanes of the highway were blocked.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital for assessment. The four occupants of the sedan were also transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Later, two youths that were in the sedan were transported to a Toronto area hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the SUV was charged with Careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

All lanes of the highway were reopened at approximately 10:30am.
