Port Hope Man Facing Theft Charges

A 57-year-old Port Hope man is facing charges after police investigated three separate incidents of theft at local businesses.

On June 14, 2025, a man attended a business on Elgin Street West in Cobourg, selected an electric scooter and departed the store without making any attempt to pay.

On June 21, 2025, a man attended a business on Division Street, selected items. He left the store without making any attempt to pay.

On July 7, 2025, the man attended a business in the north end of Cobourg selected items. He left the store without making any attempt to pay.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified a suspect involved in all three thefts. He was located and arrested on July 10, 2025.

As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old man from Port Hope was arrested and charged with three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and three counts of failing to comply with probation. The accused was held for bail.

 

Cobourg Man Charged with Robbery, Assault with a Weapon

A 21-year-old Cobourg man is facing serious charges after Cobourg Police responded to a disturbance call in the North end of Cobourg.

On July 9, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Cobourg Police took a report of a serious assault which took place at a residence in the area of Trevor Street and Trailsview Avenue in Cobourg. Police were informed that a male is alleged to have assaulted the victim with a rolling pin while attempting to take money from the victim. A group of individuals tried to assist the victim when the man threatened three others while brandishing a kitchen knife.

As a result of the police investigation, 21-year-old Mohit Sharma of Cobourg was arrested and charged with

Robbery with Violence
Assault with a Weapon
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Three counts of Uttering Threats to cause Bodily harm
The accused was held in custody and will attend a show cause hearing.

 

Port Hope Man Facing Charges After Trespass Incident

A 57-year-old Port Hope man is facing charges after trespass incident.

On July 8, 2025, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police on patrol observed suspicious activity at a local business in the area of Buchanan Street and Division Street. Upon arrival, a male was observed fleeing the area. Police located the man a short distance away.

As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old Port Hope man was arrested and charged with trespass by night and fail to comply with probation. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
