A 30-year-old Whitby man is facing theft charges as a result of a theft investigation.
On March 16, 2025, police initiated an investigation after receiving a report of theft from a business located on Elgin Street West in Cobourg. A male selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay. After reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses, police positively identified a suspect and a warrant was issued.
On July 3, 2025, a 30-year-old Whitby man was arrested on the strength of a warrant and charged with theft under $5,000, Possession of property obtained by Crime under $5,000, and failing to comply with Probation.
The accused was later released on an undertaking with a future court date.
A 52-year-old man is facing charges after police received a report of shoplifting.
On July 4, 2025, police received a report of shoplifting at a business in the area of King Street and Spring Street in Cobourg. Staff reported that an unknown man visited the business, selected merchandise, and proceeded past all points of purchase without making a payment.
After observing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses, police identified a suspect who was located a short distance away. A 52-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The accused was later released on an undertaking with a future court date.
A 28-year-old Cobourg man is facing impaired charges after police conducted a traffic stop on Monday morning.
On Monday, July 7, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on King Street West in Cobourg. A vehicle stop was conducted. Investigation revealed signs of impairment by alcohol. The driver refused to provide a breath sample.
As a result of the police investigation, a 28-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Failure or refusal to comply with demand, driving while under suspension, fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, and fail to surrender insurance card. The driver was released on an undertaking and a Part III summons. The driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and their vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
