Northumberland OPP – SIU Invokes Mandate After Collision in Alnwick/Haldimand Township

In Police Blotter

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate in relation to an incident early this morning in the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, shortly after midnight, officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting speed enforcement on County Road 45 when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Moments later, the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision. The lone occupant of the vehicle sustained life-altering injuries and was transported to hospital.

The OPP has notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information related to the interaction between police and the individual.

In parallel, the OPP is conducting its own investigation into the circumstances that led to the collision. County Road 45 remains closed between Roseneath Landing Road and Bowmanton Road as members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team assist with the investigation.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation regarding the collision is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
