Northumberland OPP – Inmate Charged Following Assault at Warkworth Institution

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an incident at Warkworth Institution.

On December 20, 2024, at around 11:20 a.m., police received a report regarding an assault which had occurred earlier in the morning at the facility. An altercation had occurred between two inmates where an edged weapon was involved.

One person was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and further transported to another area hospital by Air Ornge for medical treatment.

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested an individual on May 20, 2025.

A 32-year-old male, from Loyalist Township, has been charged with:

– Aggravated assault

– Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
