Belleville Police – Incidents Include Suspect Threatens Two-Year-Old, Driver Charged with Impaired After Vehicle Strikes House

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 380 calls for service between 5:00 am on May 16, 2025 to 5:00 am on May 20, 2025.

Neighbour dispute results in arrest and charges
On the 16th of May at 5:42pm, police responded to a neighbour dispute at a residence in the city’s central region.

Police spoke to the complainant and learned that he and his two-year-old daughter were outside working on his bike.

His daughter began to play with a rope which belonged to the neighbour.

The neighbour approached them and threatened to kill the two-year-old girl.

A verbal argument ensued between the adults and the neighbour proceeded to pull out a hatchet from his waistband threatening the father while he was holding his daughter.

The incident was captured on cell phone video and fortunately there were no injuries.

Following the police investigation, police arrested and charged a 39-year-old Belleville man with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Arrested on outstanding warrant
On the 16th of May at 1:05pm, Police were dispatched to the Belleville Probation Office on Victoria Ave. regarding an unwanted person.

When police arrived, they spoke to the unwanted female confirming her identity.

Police learned that she was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for breaching her probation conditions.

As a result, the 33-year-old female from Belleville was arrested without incident on the strength of the warrant.

She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Impaired Driving
On the 18th of May at 12:00pm, Belleville Police received a call from a concerned citizen reporting that an intoxicated male just left a business in the city’s east end driving a car.

The citizen provided a description of the driver and vehicle.

Police attended the area and stopped the vehicle.

Police spoke to the driver and as part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service for further testing.

As a result, 41-year-old Steven Vaneck of Belleville was charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in June. His drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

 

Vehicle strikes parked camper van then house – driver charged with impaired driving
On the 18th of May at 8:51pm, Police, Fire and Paramedics all responded to a residence on Cannifton Rd. North near Tank Farm Rd after receiving reports that a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a parked camper van which was parked in a driveway and then proceeded to strike a house.

Residents were on-scene detaining the male driver who was attempting to flee the scene.

Upon arrival, Police arrested the male without further incident.

The initial investigation revealed that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed on Tank Farm Rd. and continued through the intersection of Cannifton Rd North when it struck the park van and house.

There were no reported injuries to any of the residents, however the driver suffered minor injuries resulting from the collision.

There was concern for the structural integrity of the residence so the gas to the residence was turned off and hydro crews were called.

The residence was taped off until it could be further inspected. The driver was transported to Quinte Health Care – Belleville General Hospital for medical treatment.

Police entered into an impaired driving investigation.

Following their investigation, police arrested and charged 24-year-old Braden Hunt of Belleville with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, impaired driving and over 80.

Hunt was released on an Undertaking with a court date in July.

 

False fire alarm and breach of probation charges
On the 19th of May at 10:21am, Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end after receiving reports regarding a female who was threatening to assault others in the household.

Upon their arrival, police learned that the female had also pulled the fire alarm knowing there was no fire or emergency.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 25-year-old female with making false fire alarm, failing to comply with a Release Order and six counts of failing to comply with a Probation Order.

She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Stolen Vehicle
On the 19th of May at 3:30pm, Belleville Police were called to a North Front St. business regarding the theft of a motor vehicle.

The owner had been in a restaurant and when they exited, they discovered that someone had stolen their vehicle.

The vehicle was last observed travelling north on Cannifton Rd at 3:28pm.

The car is described as a purple 2017 Toyota Rav4 with Ontario licence plate BPZR 213.

Anyone with information regarding the theft or the whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to contact Belleville Police.
