The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to share that free transit service will once again be offered on Transit Routes A and B within Port Hope, beginning Monday, May 5, 2025. This fare suspension, first introduced during the 2024 construction season, is being reinstated to support the community through Phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction Project.

The ROLLS transit program will also continue to operate fare-free, ensuring that accessible transportation remains available to all residents during this time.

“We’re proud to offer free transit on Routes A and B as we continue through the third and final phase of construction,” says Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “This initiative reflects our commitment to minimizing disruption, supporting downtown businesses, and offering environmentally friendly travel options to our community.”

To make visits to the downtown area easier during construction, residents and visitors are encouraged to use designated municipal parking lots outside the core and take advantage of the free transit to access shops, services, and events.

Residents who have already purchased a monthly transit pass for May are encouraged to hold onto it—it will remain valid and can be used once fares for Routes A and B resume. Monthly passes continue to be applicable for use on Transit Route C – the Cobourg Express Shuttle, which will maintain regular fares.

We encourage everyone to take advantage of the fare-free transit service for in-town routes to support our local economy, reduce traffic congestion, and make sustainable travel choices.
