Motor Vehicle Collision – Sherbrooke Street

Officers with the Peterborough Police Service investigated a fatal motor vehicle collision early Sunday morning.

At approximately 4:15am on April 27, 2025, officers were called to Sherbrooke Street West just east of Highway 7 about a damaged vehicle in the ditch. A 25-year-old Township of Cavan-Monaghan man was found at the scene, officers started lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced deceased.

The Peterborough Police Service Reconstruction Unit was called in and the road was closed for about seven hours for investigation.

 

Sudden Death

The Peterborough Police Service is assisting with a Coroner’s Investigation after a fire was reported at a trailer on a property off Lansdowne Street West near Rothesay Avenue Sunday night and human remains were located.

The death is not considered suspicious at this time.

 

Harassment Arrest

A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing a criminal harassment charge after an incident in early March.

The incident happened March 8, 2025, about 6:00pm at the Walmart store on Chemong Road. The female victims reported a man following them extremely closely through the store while possibly recording them or taking photos. The incident made the women feel unsafe. Through investigation a suspect was identified.

On Monday, April 28, 2025, an off-duty officer spotted the suspect in the same store parking lot and took him into custody with the assistance of Investigative Services. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court, June 3, 2025.

Bear Spray Incident

A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing a charge after an incident Sunday evening.

At approximately 7:00pm on April 27, 2025, officers were called to Del Crary Park after a report a cyclist had come into contact with pepper spray. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police leaving the area and took him into custody. During a search after arrest officers seized a can of bear spray.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 10, 2025.

 

Theft/Assault Peace Officer Arrest

A 24-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Friday afternoon.

At approximately 1:15pm on April 25, 2025, officers were called to a store in the Goodfellow Road and Clonsilla Avenue area about a male leaving without paying for items. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police walking a short distance away. Officers took the man into custody after a brief struggle. During a search after arrest the suspect spat on the officer and while being taken to the Peterborough Police Station continued to spit inside the vehicle. Further investigation determined the man was also wanted in connection with a theft from a convenience store on March 13, 2025.

As a result,

A 24-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Theft Under $5,000 X2
Mischief – destroys or damages property
Assault a Peace Officer
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

 

Theft Arrest

A 37-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after an incident Friday morning

At approximately 10:15am on April 25, 2025, officers were called to the area of St. Mary’s Street and Western Avenue about a person spotted pulling clothing with price tags on it from under their shirt and another bag full of property. Upon arrival to the area, officers located a woman matching the description given to police. Through investigation, officers located items from a nearby store, a package that was taken from a porch and a passport that was reported stolen earlier this month.

As a result, a 37-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

Theft Under $5000
Possession Property Under $5000
Fail to Comply with Probation x3
The accused is currently bound by three probation orders with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Friday, April 25, 2025.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 22-year-old Toronto man is facing impaired charges after a call about a collision early Saturday morning.

At approximately 5:30am on April 26, 2025, officers were called to the area of George Street and Antrim Street about a vehicle that had struck a parked vehicle. While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, officers noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old Toronto man was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Driver fail to surrender license (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 3, 2025.
