Video – Group Rallies to Save Cobourg Property from Being Developed

In Local

A group working to “save” 117 Durham Street in Cobourg rallied in Cobourg on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Katharine Spavins was one of the organizers who met at the Rotary Harbourfront Park on Saturday getting signatures to a petition to stop the sale of the Durham Street property currently owned by the Town of Cobourg.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Cobourg Council will vote on rezoning the high density property potentially placing the property for sale to developers.

Spavins said the goal was to inform citizens about the potential sale of 117 Durham Street.

“There are many people in the community that are concerned the ecological issue with it being adjacent to the ecology garden, there are many sports people that use it including the rugby team and soccer team and then there is the safety issue. The road is only 12-metres wide, and it’s required to be 20-metres.”

At noon on Saturday, supporters opposed to the rezoning walked from Rotary Harbourfront Park up to King Street, then walked to Division Street and back to Victoria Hall for a group photo.
