The Muslim Community of Northumberland donated for the third time on Friday, April 25, 2025 to Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank in Cobourg.

A number of members of the Muslim community were at the Food Bank on Friday morning to bring in the much needed donation.

President of the Muslim Community of Northumberland, Dr. Mohamed Hasana Lebbe said there are approximately 150 families with a small, but active masjid located in Cobourg.

“We deeply believe in contributing to the town where we live,” said Hasana Lebbe.

“Being generous is a core principle of Islam. Our prophet Muhammad has said, “whoever fills his stomach while his neighbour is hungry, is not a believer.”

“From this saying, we understand that carrying for others, especially for those in need in Islam is not just an act of kindness, but a responsibility.”

The community donated 332 pounds of food which equals nearly $1,200 of a donation.

Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank Executive Director, Meghan Flindall said it’s the third donation from the Muslim Community of Northumberland.

“This is really valuable to us. This is not the first time this group has dropped off food to Fare Share.”

With a donation of over 300 pounds of food for, Flindall said, “it’s very impactful for our community.”
