City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Pickering Man Charged with Impaired Driving (Name Released)

Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 35, Manvers Township, that led to an individual being charged with impaired driving offences.

On April 20, at 2:43 p.m., City of Kawartha Lakes OPP officers were conducting a traffic stop for a separate incident when they were informed by a passerby about a possible impaired driver. Our officers located the vehicle and a traffic stop was conducted.

Through investigation, Evan SMITH, 36-year-old from Pickering was arrested and charged with

– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

– Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

– Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

– Fail to surrender licence

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.
