Officers with the Peterborough Police Service are investigating a series of thefts and attempted thefts of Toyota vehicles throughout the city.
These incidents have taken place over a two-week period.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, three Toyota vehicles were stolen, one of which was recovered in Quebec, one recovered in Peel Region and the third has yet to be located.

On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 11:20pm, an officer on general patrol on Lansdowne Street at Clonsilla Avenue noticed a vehicle on the lot of a Toyota dealership with the lights flashing and went to investigate. Upon entering the lot, the officer activated their emergency lights and noticed a black BMW in the lot. The driver of the BMW drove directly at the police vehicle requiring the officer to swerve to avoid a head-on collision. The vehicle headed eastbound on Lansdowne Street at a high rate of speed. Three vehicles on the lot of the dealership were damaged including a broken window, broken sunroof and wiring ripped from under the dashboard.
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at approximately 2:30am, a Toyota Tundra truck was stolen from a residential driveway in the Denure Drive and Keppler Crescent area.
The focus right now is on Toyota vehicles, mainly trucks and larger SUVs. We are asking residents with these vehicles to be extra vigilant.
Consider taking the following precautions:
- parking another vehicle in front of the vehicle or in your garage, if possible, to make it difficult for thieves to drive off
- if your vehicle comes with a tracking system, please make sure it is installed and activated
- using a theft deterrent device
- if you spot any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please report it to Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x225 or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency or crime in progress.

As I have mentioned several times, we are aware that many of the people who have been committing violent crimes, including firearms-related offences, are travelling to our city to do so, including the people engaged in this series of vehicle thefts. We are awaiting news of whether our application was successful.
