Belleville Police – Domestic Dispute Leads to the Deployment of Numerous Police Resources

On the 1st of April at 6:24pm, police were dispatched to a business on North Front St. after a witness reported observing a male punching a female inside a vehicle while in the parking lot.

The vehicle details were provided to police.

The vehicle had left the area prior to police arrival.

Police continued the investigation and were able to locate the owner at a residence in the city’s east end.

Police attended the residence and spoke to the involved female.

Police learned that the female had been physically assaulted on two separate occasions.

As a result of the information, police formed the grounds to arrest the involved 41-year-old male from Belleville.

The male remained inside his residence and refused to cooperate with police.

During initial attempts at resolving the situation, the male advised that if police attempted to enter his residence he would use deadly force against them and jump off his 6th floor balcony.

Police were aware that the suspect had previous extensive combat training.

Police set up containment and deployed numerous resources including an Incident Command Officer, the Emergency Response Unit, two canine teams, Drone Unit, Crisis Negotiator Team and the Criminal Investigative Division in an effort to resolve the incident peacefully.

Trained tactical medics from Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services were also in attendance.

After approximately two hours, the male was taken into police custody following the deployment of a conducted energy weapon.

There were no reported physical injuries from the arrest.

The male was charged with two counts assault.

He was held for a bail hearing.
