Update – Port Hope Police – Port Home Man Facing Several Charges in Relation to Incident at Greenwood Towers (No Name Released)

A Port Hope man is facing several charges in relation to an incident earlier this week at Greenwood Towers on Peter Street.

On March 18, 2025, Port Hope Police, Cobourg Police and Northumberland OPP evacuated residents of Greenwood Towers in Port Hope following an incident.

One resident spoked to Today’s Northumberland said a smoke cannister was discharged in a room after a group of individuals were playing cards.

Police converged on the area and a gunpoint takedown was initiated, taking a Port Hope man into custody.

Residents were allowed back into their units, but Port Hope Police remained on scene for most of the day.

Port Hope Police stated to Today’s Northumberland a Port Hope man is facing charges of:

CC 82(1) – Making or possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose (Indictable)

CC 81(1)(a) – Causing an explosion likely to cause bodily harm, death, or serious property damage

CC 430(1)(c) – Mischief: obstructing, interrupting, or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property

CC 88 – Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
