Update – Clean-Up Underway Following Fire at Golden Plough Lodge in Cobourg

In Local

With an ‘All Clear’ from the Cobourg Fire Department following a fire earlier today at the Golden Plough Lodge Long-term Care Home, County Facilities staff have completed an assessment of the affected areas of the Home.

While the fire was contained to a single resident room, smoke and water damage have required the decommissioning of two additional resident rooms on the main floor. On the level below this, two resident rooms, a nurse’s station, and two office spaces have also been cordoned off.

All residents but seven have been able to return to their rooms. Capacity exists within the home for the relocation of six residents, and staff are working with Ontario Health atHome on an alternate placement for a seventh resident.

Restoration work is now underway and is anticipated to take several weeks. Regular visiting hours will resume as of 7am Sunday morning.

“I want to thank our tremendous staff at the Golden Plough Lodge for their unwavering professionalism and quick action in responding to today’s incident,” states Director of Health and Human Services Glenn Dees.

“This exceptional team provides compassionate care every day, making our home a safe, supportive environment for all. Today’s response exemplifies the extraordinary dedication they bring to their roles as they serve our residents.

“Special thanks also to the broader Northumberland County team for their rapid response, to our colleagues at Northumberland Hills Hospital and other partner agencies who offered support, and once again to our first responder partners, who acted with speed and expertise to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.”
