The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce that Behan Construction has been awarded the contract for the third and final phase of the Walton Street Reconstruction Project. The tender process concluded on February 10, 2025, and involved a fair and equitable evaluation of all submitted bids, ensuring selection based on compliance with project specifications, cost-effectiveness, and contractor experience. The chosen bid aligns with the project’s approved budget.
Behan Construction, established in 1960 and based in Northumberland County, specializes in sewer, watermain, road construction, and site development. The company has built strong relationships with local municipalities and businesses by delivering exceptional workmanship and service.
Phase 3 Overview
Phase 3 of the reconstruction will involve the replacement of underground infrastructure and the full reconstruction of Walton Street between Cavan Street and Pine Street. Municipal staff are currently working with Behan Construction to finalize the construction schedule, with timeline details to be shared once confirmed.
Public Engagement and Updates
To ensure residents, businesses, and visitors remain informed, the Municipality is organizing a Public Information Session, anticipated for late March or early April. This session will provide details on the construction process, impacts, and timelines. Updates on the session and ongoing project developments will be communicated through the Municipality’s official channels, at porthope.ca and on Instagram and Facebook.
Project Background
The Walton Street Reconstruction Project is a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at modernizing Port Hope’s main street. The project addresses aging underground systems, including watermains, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers, while also improving roadway conditions and streetscape aesthetics.
Phase 1 was successfully completed in 2022, followed by Phase 2 in 2024. The final phase marks the completion of this multi-year effort to enhance the downtown core’s infrastructure and accessibility.
