Warming Hub Reaches Capacity Over the Weekend

In Local

The Warming Hub located at 310 Division Street reached its capacity over the weekend.

Unfortunately it was right when the hub was needed the most – during extreme weather conditions.

A sign on the entrance to the Warming Hub over the weekend stated, “Sorry for the inconvenience.  We are at capacity at the moment.  Thank you for your patience.”

Today’s Northumberland was told there were empty rooms on other levels, but the capacity for the Warming Hub is 20 individuals.

“As a result, there was a period of time where no new admissions were taking place,” said Northumberland County Director of Communications Kate Campbell.

“The main floor of 310 Division, where the warming hub is located, has an approved occupancy of 50 (including staff and clients) however, under the Town of Cobourg’s ECE by-law, approval is limited to 20.”

“While staff seek clarification on this matter, the decision was made to proceed with admitting individuals in need of shelter into the Resource Room at 310 Division Street.”

During this period, Campbell said the Warming Hub had an average of 22-24 clients.
