Northumberland OPP – Alnwick-Haldimand Resident Charged with Impaired (Name Released)

In Police Blotter

On Wednesday February 19, 2025, at approximately 7:30 pm, a concerned motorist came upon a black Nissan pick-up truck that appeared to have spun out on County Road 22 just east of County Road 45. The motorist contacted the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as the pick-up truck was blocking a lane of the roadway. Officers arrived on scene and upon speaking with the driver of the pick-up truck detected a strong odour of alcohol. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a nearby OPP detachment where further testing was conducted resulting in the driver registering over twice the legal limit.

Carl CHAPPLE (age 79) of Alnwick-Haldimand Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 26, 2025.

Police continue to rely on members of the public to report suspected impaired drivers. Many of these drivers are caught because of concerned citizens being conscious of irregular or erratic driving behaviors that continue to put other motorists at risk of tragedies caused by impaired drivers on our roadways.

The Northumberland County OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs call 9-1-1.
