Northumberland OPP Requesting Public’s Assistance

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently seeking the public’s assistance with any information related to an occurrence from December 26th, where a person could be heard screaming for help in Hastings somewhere near the Trent Severn Waterway.

On December 26, 2024, at 4:36 p.m., officers were contacted and informed of a person screaming for help from the North side of the Trent Severn Waterway, near Old Orchard Road, in the Hastings area.

Officers, along with local Fire Services and Paramedics attended the area. Officers began conducting a coordinated search of the area in attempts to locate the unknown person(s) calling for help. The OPP had assistance with the search from the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Aviation Helicopter (CF OPP). At 9:30 p.m., officers concluded their search with negative results after extensive canvassing and searching in the neighbourhood was completed.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Northumberland OPP is requesting any assistance from the public with regards to information related to this incident.
