Northumberland OPP – Emergency Services Respond to Call for Help in Trent Hills

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report regarding a request for assistance near Hastings.

On December 26, 2024, at approximately 4:35 p.m., police received a call from a member of the public who advised they could hear a male calling out for help near the Trent Severn Waterway in the area of Valley View Lane.

Officers along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Municipality of Trent Hills Fire Department proceeded to the area and patrolled trails and roads on both sides of the waterway.

A Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS) was dispatched by both the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well as from the fire department in an effort to locate the person seeking help. Also jo ining the search from the air was the OPP Aviation Services however search results were negative.

Resources began to clear from the area shortly after 9:00 p.m. Police believe that the person in distress was somewhere on the south side of the waterway at the location however, at this time, nobody had been located.

This investigation is on-going and officers are asking for anyone with information regarding this incident, to contact the Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
