Peterborough County OPP – Impaired Charge from RIDE Stop (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after stopping at a R.I.D.E. program.

On November 18, 2024, just prior to 12:30am, Peterborough County OPP Officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at County Road 4 and Television Road. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. program and an officer spoke with the driver. After a brief conversation with the driver, the officer determined they were under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.

Abdul MALIK (age 48) of Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on December 17, 2024.
