Northumberland OPP – Suspended Driver Charged with Drug Trafficking (Name Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with multiple offences including drug trafficking.

On November 1, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Municipality of Hills Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and police responded to a report of a passenger vehicle in the ditch on 12th Line East. Officers arrived on the scene and the motorist was being assessed by EMS for minor injuries. There were no other persons involved and the passenger had minimal damage.

Through investigation, the driver was found to be suspended from driving and warrants existed for their arrest. An unsealed container of liquor was observed in the vehicle and a search revealed 7.5 grams of Cocaine with a street value of approximately $670. Small plastic bags, a scale and $1385 in Canadian currency were also located and seized.

As a result, David MUNFORD, 42-years-old, from Campbellford, was arrested and charged with:

–       Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

–       Fail to comply with probation order

–       Driving while under suspension

–       Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. A local municipal police service attended a Northumberland Detachment location to continue their investigation.
