Northumberland OPP – 16-Year-Old Charged with Stunt Driving

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged motorists following unrelated incidents of speeding.

On October 17, 2024, at approximately 10:20 a.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Hamilton. They observed a passenger vehicle travelling at a speed of 174 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h limit. A traffic stop was conducted and a 16-year-old driver, from Port Hope, was arrested and charged with:

– Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt excessive speed.

Along with a future court date, the individual had their licence suspended for 30 days and vehicle impounded for 14 days.

 

On October 17, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police were on patrol on County Road 9 in the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand, when they observed a vehicle travelling at a speed of 106 km/h in a posted 80 Km/h limit. The driver was stopped and through investigation, they were found to be driving while suspended.

A 35-year-old, from Roseneath, has been charged with:

– Driving while under suspension

– Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit.

In addition to a future court date, their vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The OPP is committed to reducing and preventing injuries on roads, highways, waterways, and trails, while enhancing safety for motorists and all other road users through public education and enforcement.
