Belleville Police – Incidents Include Hamilton Township Man Charged with Sexual Assault, Residential Fire

Sexual Assault
On the 14th of October at 11:27am, Belleville Police received a report of a sexual assault which occurred during the previous evening at a residence in the city’s west end. Following the police investigation, a 20-year-old male from Hamilton Township was arrested and charged with sexual assault. Members of the Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Division are assisting in the investigation. The male was held for a bail hearing.

Residential fire
On the 14th of October at 3:22pm, a Belleville Police officer observed heavy smoke in the area of Frank St and Purdy St. The officer investigated further and located a residence on Purdy St where the front of the residence was fully engulfed in an active fire. Information was received that there was an elderly female residing in the basement of the house who was not out yet. Belleville Fire had not arrived on scene yet. The officer entered the basement despite heavy smoke pouring out the back door. The female was removed safely from the residence. Two residents were assessed at the scene by members of the Hastings-Quinte Paramedics. Belleville Fire attended and extinguished the fire. The officer attended the Belleville General Hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation. Belleville Police remain at the residence providing scene continuity as the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted to investigate the circumstances of the fire.
