Video Queenies Bake Shop in Port Hope Holds 13th Annual Free Thanksgiving Meal

In Local

Owner of Queenies Bake Shop, Adam Pearson says it’s his way of giving back to the community for all their support over the year.

But it’s much more than that for the people who received a delicious home cooked turkey meal complete with potatoes, gravy, corn and stuffing.

Pearson worked for approximately 15 hours preparing the meal (eight turkeys, 50 pounds of potatoes, and more) as he does each year for the past 13 years.

“I started it, because at the time there wasn’t anybody doing the free meals for the community.”

“As much as I am supported throughout the year, I wanted to make sure I am supporting the community at the same time.”

Pearson said each year the need grows and he’s happy to give back.

Even people who visit Port Hope to see the salmon hear about the free meal and stop by.

“There is a lot of people coming here from outside the community visiting – well the only thing I have available is the free Thanksgiving meal so I offer it to everyone.”

A donation jar is always put out front for people who wish to donate.

This years charity was the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.

Pearson said he’s grateful to his staff and helpers including Chantelle, Esmee and Katherine who come in and volunteer for the Thanksgiving meal.

“It makes me feel incredible. We’re getting the opportunity to connect with our neighbours and make sure their bellies are full at the end of the day. There is also a lot of people in our community where it’s not just the food they need – they need company. We’ve got a lot of seniors who are by themselves so I make up the Thanksgiving meal and then they have that chat and socialization.”
