Peterborough Police – Attempted Murder Suspects Sought

In Police Blotter

The Peterborough Police Service is looking for two, possibly three, suspects after a shooting Wednesday evening.

At approximately 6:50pm on September 26, 2024, officers were called to the area of George Street North and Parkhill Road about reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, K9 and officers searched the area, but suspects were not located. Shortly after police arrived a 17-year-old Scarborough male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds came out of the residence and was treated by EMS on the sidewalk before being taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre. The victim was then taken to a Toronto-area hospital and at last report was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The connection between the suspects and the victim is not fully clear, however, it is believed that this incident is related to the drug subculture.

Anyone with information is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca

“At this time, we are actively following up on investigative leads and searching for the suspects. We are asking anyone with information to come forward, and if not comfortable speaking directly to the police, then to do so anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

These events are absolutely concerning and strike at the feelings of safety for everyone in our community. Although little comfort, we have information to believe that this was another targeted incident, and once again, we believe the illicit drug trad is at the heart of it. I have said many times, where there are illicit drugs, violence is likely to follow.

Regardless, we know the impact of such incidents and are committed to identifying, locating and bringing to the court the people who perpetrated this violence. Our investigation is ongoing, and we want the public to know your safety is our priority.”  – Chief Stuart Betts
