Video – Port Hope Man Videos People Appearing to Net Salmon

In Local

A Port Hope man videoed a number of people appearing to catch salmon on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Jason Whyte said he was in Optimist Park just south of Molson Street when he noticed a group of individuals netting salmon and catching them with their hands at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Whyte said he notified police, but by the time they arrived approximately 30-minutes later the individuals had left.

The group was noticed south of Molson Street and also in the sanctuary.

There is no fishing from south of Molson Street to the railway bridge south of the Barrett Street bridge until mid-October.

On Saturday, Whyte noticed a number of people in the water and it appeared they were trying to pet the fish.

Whyte said he just wishes that people would respect the rules of fishing.
