New state-of-the-art hospital will connect more Bay of Quinte residents with care close to home
Construction is underway to build the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton. The new health care facility will include improved equipment and facilities such as a 24-hour emergency department, connecting more people in Bay of Quinte to the care they need, close to home.
“Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is making historic investments in health care,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “The new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is another example of how we are investing in the health care needs of Ontario’s growing communities to deliver the highest standard of care for decades to come.”
To date, the Ontario government has provided $10 million in capital funding to build the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. Once opened, the new hospital will connect families in the region to the hospital care they need now and for years to come, including:
- 23 in-patient beds
- A larger, 24/7 emergency department that will provide more space for staff and patients
- Modern surgical suites to deliver care with the best technology available
- Dialysis treatments and diagnostic imaging
- Outpatient care services including minor surgical procedures such as endoscopies
“Today, after years of advocacy and planning, we put our shovels in the ground together to build a state-of-the-art hospital for Prince Edward County. It’s a terrific moment for health care in our community,” said Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte. “I’m grateful to Quinte Health for its leadership and the many Back the Build partners who rose to the challenge in support of this project. Our Minister of Health Sylvia Jones has recognized this steadfast determination, and our government has given its approval for construction. I’m very much looking forward to the grand opening.”
Through Your Health: A Plan For Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is making it easier and faster for people of all ages to connect to the care they need, where and when they need it. This includes getting shovels in the ground for over 50 hospital developments across the province that will add an additional 3,000 new hospital beds over the next 10 years. This is on top of the 3,500 the Ontario government has added since 2020.
