Northumberland OPP – Baltimore Woman Charged with Impaired Following Collision (Name Released)

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a person with impaired operation.

On July 16, 2024, at approximately 4:25 p.m., police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Harwood Road and County Road 45 in Hamilton Township.

Officers arrived and began an investigation into the cause of the collision and subsequently arrested the driver of the passenger vehicle. The individual was transported to a local detachment for further testing. Injuries were described as minor.

Rebecca PURNWASIE, 37-years-old, from Baltimore, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–   ;    Dangerous operation

–      Fail to surrender insurance card.

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
