Belleville Police Service – Incidents Include, Impaired Driving by Drug, Vehicle Intentionally Strikes Pedestrian

Impaired Driving by Drug and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
On the 29th of June at 12:15am, a Belleville police officer on patrol observed a black sedan travelling southbound on North Front Street half into the oncoming lane. The officer stopped the vehicle and noted that the driver was showing signs of impairment. The driver failed a roadside field sobriety test and was arrested. The driver additionally failed an evaluation while at the Belleville Police Service. As a result of the investigation, 38-year-old Benoit Guay of Sherbrooke Quebec was charged with impaired driving by drug and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in August.

Vehicle intentionally strikes Pedestrian
On the 29th of June at 12:30am, Belleville Police were called to a parking lot on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old male pedestrian who had suffered obvious trauma as a result of being struck by a vehicle. The suspect vehicle had fled the area. The victim was transported to Kingston General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle returned shortly after police arrival. Through their investigation, police learned that the driver had intentionally drove at and struck the pedestrian. As a result, police arrested and charged 24-year-old Raminder Singh Padda of Belleville with dangerous operation causing bodily harm and failing to stop at an accident causing bodily harm. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in August.

Mischief investigation leads to charges
On the 12th of June, Belleville Police attended an apartment building on Mary Street for a report of mischief where an unknown suspect had caused damage to a number of washing machines. Through their investigation which included security video police were able to identify the suspect. On the 30th of June, 30-year-old Christopher Gray of Belleville was arrested and charged with two counts of mischief under $5000 and failing to comply with his Probation Order. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in September.

Using plates not authorized for vehicle
On the 1st of July at 2:43am, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle on Cannifton Rd. driving with plates that weren’t supposed to be attached. The officer conducted a traffic stop and seized the plates. As a result, the driver, a 31-year-old female from Belleville was charged with using plates not authorized. She was issued a Provincial Offence Notice.

Fail to Comply with Undertaking
On the 2nd of July at 12:33am, Belleville Police were called to a residence in the city’s north end for a report of a verbal dispute. Upon arrival, police spoke to the involved parties and learned that the female involved was on conditions not to have contact with the male. As a result, police arrested and charged a 28-year-old female of Belleville with failing to comply with her Undertaking. She was held for a bail hearing.

Arrested on Warrant
On the 1st of July at 11:30pm, the Quinte West OPP dealt with a female who was wanted on an arrest warrant held by the Belleville Police Service. As a result, 44-year-old Melissa Meilleur of Belleville was arrested on the strength of the warrant. The OPP transferred custody of Meilleur to the Belleville Police Service. Meilleur is facing charges of failing to attend court and failing to comply with an Undertaking. She was held for a bail hearing.
