Durham Regional Police – Donation Fraud Investigation in Clarington (Names Released)

The Financial Crimes Unit have identified and arrested a male and female who sold booklets they fraudulently claimed were in support of the Clarington Flames Hockey Association.

The suspects are affiliated with a business known as JSMarketing.

The Clarington Flames Girls Hockey Association is not affiliated with this business or the suspects and has not received any donations.  The coupon books are legit coupon books; however, the proceeds were not ending up with the Clarington Flames and the suspects were not acting on behalf of the organization.

Robert Ted KUROSAD, age 53 from Oshawa is charged with: Fraud Over $5000, and Obtain by False Pretense Over $5000.

 

Jennifer BATTEN, age 44 from Oshawa is charged with: Fraud Over $5000, and Obtain by False Pretense Over $5000.

 Both were released on an Undertaking.

Anyone who may have been defrauded by the suspects or JSMarketing, or who has any information about this or similar incidents is asked to contact Det. Chapman of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5352.
