Northumberland County Recognizes Extraordinary Volunteer

In City Hall, Local

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Northumberland County council kicked off its June meeting by presenting county employee Colleen McCabe with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

Warden Brian Ostrander elaborated on McCabe’s “impressive achievements” in recognizing the county’s Health and Safety and Emergency Risk Manager with a medal for those “who have made a significant, sustained and unpaid contribution to their community.”

For close to 20 years, Ostrander continued, she has contributed to her community by running breakfast programs at local schools, establishing and co-ordinating local events, participating on the Trillium Grant review team, working with the Trenton Sea Cadets and the Navy League of Canada, and saving lives with the Brighton Auxiliary Rescue Unit (now called Brighton Marine Rescue).

Ostrander presented the award on behalf of the people of Northumberland County “and your very proud mayor.”
