United Way Northumberland, together with Partners in Caring, is thrilled to mark the 25th anniversary of the Day of Caring, on Friday, June 7th in various locations around Northumberland County.

For a quarter of a century, United Way has recognized the challenges faced by individuals and not-for-profit organizations in completing essential repairs due to various limitations, including health, financial, and personal constraints. To address these needs, the Day of Caring was born, bringing together local companies and dedicated individuals who volunteer their time and skills.

Their collective efforts provide crucial assistance, ensuring safer and more comfortable living conditions for those in need of support.

United Way, along with CpK Interior Products, Cameco Corporation, SABIC, Lakefront Utilities, Arclin Surfaces, Town of Cobourg, Stalwood Homes, AkzoNobel, Home Building Centre, CPS Building Products, and additional supporters Starbucks Cobourg and Wharram Tree Services, are proud to support this initiative.

Members of the Town of Cobourg were at the Fare Share Food Bank on D’Arcy Street painting the hallways.

Chair of the Board of Directors for the Food Bank Operations, Dick Kauling said it was an exiting day for the Food Bank to partner with the United Way stating the “exceptionally hard-working volunteers help beautify a place where we serve our neighbours.”

With the Food Bank serving 500 new clients, “it’s the sharing of the community and not only investing in the fixing of the place up where our neighbours can sit and rest while waiting to be served – it just adds to the overall strength of the community and the strength of this organization.”

Without the help of the volunteers, Kauling said bluntly the painting wouldn’t have happened.

The volunteers were putting a coat of fresh paint where clients come and wait to be served.

A area was done with magnetic paint where it will be a place where public notices and information will be displayed.

“They’ve been working hard and to do it in such a short period of time I thank them all.”

More staff from the Town of Cobourg along with Cameco were at the Cobourg and Heritage Museum painting the exterior of the building.

The Lions Club of Cobourg, exemplifying their unwavering support and kindness, has generously provided their hall and will serve a hot breakfast to all volunteers to kick off the day’s activities – we couldn’t do it without their generosity.

“We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and commitment from local companies and individuals that have made this initiative a cornerstone of our community,” said Alicia
Vandine, Executive Director, United Way Northumberland.

“Celebrating 25 years with our biggest yet, with over 200 volunteers working at 40 locations across Northumberland County. We are incredibly excited to see such commitment and generosity from everyone involved. We are stronger together, and the unwavering support of local organizations and industries is vital to the success of this crucial program in our community.”
