Update: SIU Investigating Fatal Collision with OPP Boat Near Sudbury

The 49-year-old woman involved in a collision with an Ontario Provincial Police boat on Nepewassi Lake was pronounced deceased this afternoon. The woman was taken to hospital in Sudbury following the collision early this morning. A post-mortem exam is being scheduled.

As previously reported:
Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 4:30 a.m. on June 7, 2024, officers with the West Nipissing detachment were investigating a domestic disturbance in relation to a call received from a residence only accessible via watercraft on Nepewassi Lake.
  • While en route to the residence, the OPP boat was involved in a collision with another watercraft.
  • The female operator of the other boat was seriously injured and taken to hospital in Sudbury.
  • No one was seriously injured aboard the OPP boat.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. One subject official and one witness official have been designated at this time.
