Assault Arrest

A 34-year-old North York man is facing several charges after an incident early Monday morning.

At approximately 3:15am on May 20, 2024, officers were called to a business in the King Street and George Street area about an unwanted male. Upon arrival, officers learned that a man had entered the business as it was closing and would not leave.  When escorted to an exit, the suspect swung and struck an employee in the head before leaving the area.

Officers located a man matching the description given to police in the King Street and Bethune Street area.  When approached the male the continually tried to walk away and refused to listen to officer demands.  Officers were able to catch up to him in the Aylmer and King Street area and took him into custody.

During a search after arrest, officers located wallets and identification belonging to other people, other items, and a set of keys for a vehicle reported stolen out of York Region.  Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area of King Street and Bethune Street.

As a result, a 34-year-old North York man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault – adult
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Fail to comply with probation

The accused is currently bound by three probation orders out of other jurisdictions with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court May 20, 2024.

 

Break and Enter Arrest

A 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 12:56am on May 19, 2024, officers were called about an unwanted male in a vacant and condemned building.  Officers started searching the building and located a male in a washroom inside the building.  An officer had their conducted energy weapon drawn and the man was taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) Court on May 19, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:45am on May 19, 2024, an officer on general patrol in the George Street and King Street intersection noticed a vehicle fail to stop for two red lights.  The officer activated their lights and initiated a traffic stop on Sherbrooke Street.  During the stop, the officer noticed signs of impairment and asked the driver to complete a roadside test.  The driver refused.

As a result, a 30-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Red light fail to stop X2 (Highway Traffic Act)

Refusing or failure to comply with demand charge carries the same penalties as an impaired driving charge.

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on June 11, 2024.

 

Traffic Enforcement

On Friday, May 17, 2024, officers with the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit completed a traffic enforcement initiative related to Canada Road Safety week throughout the City of Peterborough, and Lakefield.

As a result, 27 tickets were issued, five warnings and three vehicles were taken off the road.
