Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man Charged Two Counts of Assault with a Weapon (Name Released)

A 62-year-old Cobourg man has been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon following an interaction Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 8:30 pm, police responded to a call for an assault in the area of 390 King Street East in Cobourg at the encampment.

It was reported that a man struck a victim with a 2×4 piece of wood before retrieving a compound bow and making threats. The man surrendered the bow to bystanders on the scene. The victim received minor injuries.

Police recovered both weapons.

As a result of the police investigation, Jim Wayner (62) of Cobourg was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.

The accused is held for a show cause hearing later today.
