 Arson Arrest

A 32-year-old Peterborough woman is facing arson charges after a series of garbage bin fires overnight.

At approximately 11:30pm on Monday, April 29, 2024, the Peterborough Police Service started receiving calls to assist the Peterborough Fire Department with multiple fires lit within a short time frame and proximity to each other.  In all there were fires set in two garbage bins in Millennium Park, and one garbage bin each at George Street North and King Street, Charlotte Street and Aylmer and George Street North near Sherbrooke Street.  The Peterborough Police Service was able to access CCTV footage and obtain a description of the suspect.  Officers canvassed the area and located a woman on a bike matching the person seen on camera in the Reid Street and Simcoe Street area.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Arson – Damage to Property X5

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, April 30, 2024.

The footage from the CCTV Program cameras was instrumental in allowing officers to get a description and make an arrest in this case.
