Cobourg Police Service Enhanced Traffic Enforcement

No impaired driving arrests in the Town of Cobourg over the Easter long weekend

Over the long weekend, the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) conducted enhanced
traffic enforcement in the Town of Cobourg, including RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs focused on keeping roadways safe for everyone. Throughout the weekend traffic campaign, no impaired driving arrests were made.

From March 29 to April 1, 2024, CPS members conducted RIDE programs throughout Cobourg to raise awareness of impaired driving and ensure motorists were driving sober, driving safely, and buckling up.

During the long weekend RIDE efforts, police checked 590 vehicles in the Town of Cobourg. Officers conducted one roadside screening test and issued 14 Highway Traffic Act cautions and 17 charges. Charges included driving with a hand-held device, failing to stop at a red light, speeding, and driving without a valid permit.

In addition, four provincial offence notices were issued under the Cannabis Control Act for cannabis readily available.

Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we are thankful for the community’s commitment to making responsible driving decisions. There is no excuse for impaired driving. If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, always call 9-1-1.
