Robbery Arrest

Two Peterborough people have been charged in connection with a street-level robbery Monday night.

At approximately 8:00pm on March 11, 2024, officers were called to the area of Aylmer Street and Sherbrooke Street after a woman attended a nearby business asking for help.  Upon arrival, officers learned that the woman had been sleeping and woke up to find two people going through her pockets and belongings.  When she tried to get away, she was kicked and punched.  The two suspects then fled the area.  The woman was treated at the scene.

At approximately 9:25am Tuesday, March 12, 2024, officers with the Community FIRST unit in the area George Street North and Dalhousie Street spotted a man and a woman matching the description given to police in the robbery incident and took them into custody.

As a result of the investigation:

A 33-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with violence

A 48-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with violence

Both accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in court, April 2, 2024.

Fraud Arrest

A 20-year-old Peterborough man is facing fraud charges in connection with an employee email scheme.

On March 1, 2024, officers with the Fraud Unit were contacted by OPP from another jurisdiction about a fraud scheme where an email is sent from an employee asking that their banking information be changed, and new banking information is provided.  However, the new banking information is not connected to the actual employee.

While investigating the first instance, the fraud investigators came upon a similar scheme involving an employee from a Calgary, AB company.

In total, between the two schemes, $4700 was stolen.

As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Fraud Under $5000 (OPP case)
  • Fraud Under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court March 26, 2024.
